Our programme runs for 10 hours over two days per week, term-time only. Placements are between one term and two years in length, depending on need.

What do students learn?

Applying for work and training

To prepare students to confidently explore, apply for, and succeed in future work opportunities, while developing communication, self-awareness, and practical life skills.

Preparation for Adulthood

To equip students with practical life skills, emotional awareness, and decision-making abilities to help them move toward independence with confidence and self-belief.

Preparing for career entry

To equip students with the self-awareness, planning ability, and workplace understanding needed to confidently prepare for and transition into a chosen career path.

Success at work

To prepare students to succeed in a workplace by developing emotional intelligence, workplace knowledge, communication skills, and the confidence to manage professional expectations and challenges.

Transferrable skills

Teaching soft skills that are relevant to all work environments such as communication, teamwork, problem solving, planning and organising, using initiative and leadership skills.

Enterprise

To enable pupils to plan, develop, and present a simple business idea while building confidence, teamwork, and communication skills.

How It Works

  • 10 hours over two days per week (term-time only)

  • Placement length from one term to two years, depending on need

  • 1:1 trained Job Coach throughout all sessions

  • A qualified specialist teacher who oversees, plans, and supports their programme

  • 2 hours of direct teaching with a qualified teacher each week

  • Collection and drop-off from home

Targeted Teaching

Targeted Teaching

Each student receives a 2hour session of targeted teaching per week. Providing the structure and depth that helps students make sense of it all. These sessions are small, focused, and practical.

Who We Can Support

Our team are happy to discuss referrals for any young person ages 15-25 who it is felt would benefit from our services.

An assessment of needs is done during our referral process. The key factors we consider when assessing whether a student will be offered a place on the programme include factors such as, if are able to:

Safely engage 1:1

Safely access their local community with support

Able to leave their home for sessions

Commit to 10 hours per week for the duration of the placement

Show willingness to engage in the programme

Discuss their future and next steps with a Job Coach

15-25

years olds

with SEND and SEMH needs who would benefit from alternative provision

Focussed on employability, transferrable skills and preparation for adulthood.

Wondering what a Skill for Working Life day might look like?

Referral and placement process

We place great emphasis on a robust referral process to determine whether we can meet the student’s needs and whether they can access the content we deliver.

Initial assessment

We assess documentation including EHCP, referral form and recent annual review paperwork against our admissions criteria and policy.

Assessment meeting

We hold a meeting to develop an understanding of the young person and their arrangements, and to ensure the provision is appropriate.

Costing

Costings are prepared and sent to the commissioner for approval. We work on an hourly rate and provide a termly costing.

Placement

Once approved, we match the student to a job coach, confirm timetables with parents, send a welcome booklet and share information with the on-roll school.

What commissioning partners can expect

We keep commissioners informed and work in line with statutory requirements.

Daily attendance updates

Session targets linked to EHCP outcomes

Termly reporting on progress and updates

Liaison with our DSL on any safeguarding concerns

Compliance with statutory AP requirements, including health and safety and safeguarding
